Prior to Compass South, Tony was Acquisitions Director for Copper Station and was directly responsible for acquiring approximately 200,000 acres of timberland during his time with them. Previously, Tony spent sixteen years with American Forest Management, one of the country’s leading forestry consulting firms, where he was a Partner responsible for timber acquisitions and management. Tony is a graduate of Clemson University where he received a degree in Forest Management. He is a Registered Forester, Real Estate Broker, and member of the Society of American Foresters. Tony is responsible for our Investment Consultancy group, which assists institutional and high net worth investors in buying, managing and selling their timberland properties.
Prior to Compass South, Jason was the Sales Director for Copper Station and also directed its timberland management program. As Sales Director, Jason not only was the leading salesman but also supervised a staff of foresters and other timberland sales specialists, throughout the South, in selling most of the timberland that Tony Watry purchased. Previously, Jason spent nine years with American Forest Management in various roles but ending up responsible for regional sales throughout the Southeast. Jason studied natural resource management at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, graduating with a degree in forestry. Jason heads up Compass South’s Land Sales group and works closely with investor clients on optimal disposition strategies.
John Hickman is a local of Colleton County, SC. He has focused his life and career on land and managing our natural resources. John has an extensive background in game and land management. He worked for SCDNR for 4 years before attending the University of Georgia where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Forestry and Wildlife Management and a Master’s degree in Wildlife Ecology and Management. John uses his land management experience and professional training to make sure buyers find properties which are biologically suitable to their goals, assuring no buyer remorse later down the road. John currently resides in Charleston with his wife.
Sandy McLendon is based in Perry, Georgia and has been with Compass South Land Sales since January 2015. His primary area of operations is Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina. He has been involved with large land acquisitions, dispositions, and real estate development and sales since 2002. His previous employment was in the forest industry with Union Camp Corporation, Weyerhaeuser and Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Development Company. He participated in the marketing and disposition of Weyerhaeuser’s Georgia Timberlands Region, 300,000+ acres, in 2004. Other experience includes Operations Superintendent of Savannah River Logging, Region Coordinator for Wood Security and Wood Quality for Union Camp Savannah Region, and Land Owner Assistant Program Manager, Land Adjustment Program Manager for Weyerhaeuser in Georgia. Sandy graduated from the University of Georgia in 1978 with a B.S. Degree in Forest Resource Management. He is a registered forester and licensed real estate broker.
Jeff Sorohan is based in Alpheretta, Georgia and has been with Compass South Land Sales since 2014. He is a certified real estate salesman and has been in the real estate business since he became employed with Compass South. Prior to his employment, Jeff owned and operated his own construction company for 15 years.
Jared Walker joined Compass South full time in May of 2009, after graduating from The Citadel with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting, having previously interned with Compass South during the summer of 2008. His primary responsibilities with the firm include assisting clients and our sales team with transaction analysis and support and developing acquisition and disposition strategies.
Don Chastain joins Compass South with 25 years in the forest management and real estate investment industries. His previous professional experiences include: working for a timber and real estate consulting firm where he advised institutional and private landowners on realizing their land management objective, acting as a procurement forester that managed wood-flow deliveries through a supplier system committed to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) program, and working for a vertically integrated forest products company. For the past 12 years, Don has been a practicing Timberland Investment Manager who worked to optimize each client’s timberland investment portfolio. He has over $80 Million in career sales. Don is actively involved the Society of American Foresters and various state forestry associations.
Karen Kinsey, a native of Sumter, have been with Compass South Land Sales since 2015 as a land sales associate. Karen holds a South Carolina and Georgia Real Estate License and comes to Compass South Land Sales after 5 years with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices.
Matthew Neet is based out of Alpharetta, Georgia and joined Compass South Land Sales in August of 2018. Matt has been in the real estate business since 2006, where he began his real estate career with L&M Property Group specializing in land acquisitions, development, and commercial real estate. Prior to joining Compass South, Matt spent 18 years providing professional baseball instruction and coaching throughout the country as well as internationally.

Sally Walker is Office Manager at Compass South, joining the company in 2009. Sally holds a South Carolina Real Estate License and is a member of the American Association of Notaries. She has completed coursework for a South Carolina Appraisal License. Sally received a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from Colby-Sawyer College in New London, NH. Prior to joining Compass South, Sally was affiliated with Copper Station Holdings, a regional timberland investment company, where she held a similar position.
